Private Neuropsychology Consultations
Neuropsychological Assessments
Neuropsychological assessments consider cognitive and emotional issues relevant in neurological conditions. The assessments provide a way of measuring brain function that often helps neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuropsychiatrists in their diagnostic process.
Dr Khan-Bourne provides neuropsychological assessments for adult patients and specialises in the full range of acquired neuropsychological issues (post head injury, stroke, epilepsy, neurodegenerative disorders and neurological illnesses).
Referrals
Referrals usually come via neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychiatrists or occupational health services. Where an appointment is requested directly by the patient or GP, a neurological opinion may be required prior to the appointment to ensure that all the relevant information needed is available.
Following receipt of the referral, Dr Khan-Bourne’s secretary will make contact to arrange the appointment. The appointment will typically last for 2.5-3 hours and includes short rest breaks to minimise fatigue. It is often helpful for the client to attend with someone who knows them well and can provide their perspective on the cognitive and emotional issues.
The assessment report will be available within the month and it is usually sent directly to the referrer who can provide the feedback in the appropriate context. Copies are also sent to the GP.
Neuropsychological Rehabilitation
Following the neuropsychological assessment, neuropsychological rehabilitation may be arranged either with Dr Khan-Bourne, her associates or through her extensive network of appropriate clinicians. Neuropsychological rehabilitation is concerned with the amelioration of cognitive and emotional issues.
Dr Khan-Bourne does not provide emergency crisis cover.
